Manchester United should sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane in the summer, says Rio Ferdinand.

The former United defender believes that the club should look no further than the Spurs forward if they’re looking for a reliable goalscorer for the upcoming years under Erik ten Hag.

Wout Weghorst looks set to join the club this month on a six-month loan, which will give The Reds an opportunity to focus on longer-term striker options in the summer.

Kane has scored 15 goals so far this season, an individual campaign that is going under the due to the brilliance of Erling Haaland at Manchester City. The Englishman is on track to challenge his best goalscoring term.

Ferdinand was part of a United squad that was elevated by the signing of a deadly striker from north London in 2012. The signing of Robin van Persie was absolutely crucial in United’s title win the following season.

The Dutch striker jumped ship from Arsenal so he could win the league and the former United defender says that is exactly what Kane should do.

“Get Harry Kane in. Spurs fans, I’m sorry. You’re not going to win anything. He’s not going to win anything at Spurs. They’re in a bit of turmoil at the minute.

“Man United, if you’re going to go in the summer: let’s go and find a number nine for the next three or four years to hang our hat on, to get 20-25 goals a season every year, where are you going?

“You’re going to have to pay big money for Harry Kane. But at least you know you’re getting a man who gets 20-25 goals a season. So Harry Kane can’t be going anywhere but Man United.”

Manchester United are looking more and more comfortable with Erik ten Hag at the helm. Their latest win against Charlton Athletic was their eighth in a row.

Marcus Rashford is on hot goalscoring form, with seven in his last six games following his brace against Charlton Athletic, but does not occupy the centre-forward role that Kane would do.

The Spurs striker would be a valuable source of goals for a number of years, with the only doubt being the potential for injuries. It could be the difference between United stepping up a level or not.
