Manchester United told one club stands in the way of Cole Palmer move after Chelsea departure

Manchester United are in desperate need of quality in their squad and a dream addition would of course be boyhood fan Cole Palmer.

Many Manchester United fans question how Cole Palmer managed to slip through the club’s grasp as a youngster, with the 22-year-old instead rising through the ranks at Manchester City.

A boyhood United supporter, Palmer made his way into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad at the Etihad Stadium but wanted to search for consistent game-time elsewhere.

Chelsea provided that for the midfield talent, and he has since established himself as one of the top players in the country.

Since making his debut for the Blues, Palmer has netted 39 goals and provided 21 assists in 72 appearances for the club.

Saha believes Palmer to United would make sense

Despite missing out on Palmer twice, United supporters remain hopeful that a move could one day occur.

That is also something club icon Louis Saha would like to see, with the Frenchman claiming that a move to Old Trafford would “make sense” for the player.

However, the ex-United striker isn’t too sure whether the Theatre of Dreams will be the next destination for Palmer after his time at Chelsea.

“Cole Palmer to Manchester United would one day make sense because he grew up being a fan of the club,” the Frenchman told Complete Sports. “But there is only one club I can see him going to after Chelsea.”

Real Madrid stand in United’s way for Palmer move

Palmer still has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032 and that makes a transfer more complicated in the coming years.

However, he looks like a player destined for the top level and that could lead to someone like Real Madrid come calling.

Saha believes that the Santiago Bernabéu could be the next destination for the Chelsea star, who would be able to handle the pressure of such a move.

“I can see him being on a trajectory to Real Madrid,” continued Saha. “And I don’t think the move would phase him; he never doubts himself or thinks about things for too long.

“He wants to enjoy his game, and he’s having fun. I’m very jealous of Chelsea because he is a huge star, and I think he’d be a big success if he went to Spain.”

United would certainly love to secure the signing of Palmer one day. The way he plays resembles an old school United star and knowing that he is a boyhood fan makes it even better.

The logistics of a deal are much more complicated and unlikely, especially given the club’s current position, but stranger things have happened.
