Manchester United to ‘resume talks’ over £50m star after “brilliant” forward makes destination desire clear

Manchester United want to continue their summer clear-out as Ruben Amorim looks to shape his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

Manchester United’s summer transfer business is far from complete, as Ruben Amorim continues to shape his squad ahead of his first full season at the helm.

The club remains in pursuit of several key targets, including an experienced centre-forward, a goalkeeper to either challenge or potentially replace André Onana, and a defensive midfielder.

Following their £127.5 million outlay on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to revamp the attack, United must now turn their attention to player sales in order to fund additional signings.

One of these players that the club is looking to sell is Antony, who enjoyed a successful loan spell in the second half of the season, and is now set for a permanent move away.

Real Betis back in for Antony

Antony failed to live up to the expectations that came with his £85 million fee and has been left out of United’s pre-season tour of the United States. Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, however, the 25-year-old is happy to secure a move away that offers regular playing time.

After enjoying somewhat of a career revival out on loan at Real Betis, the La Liga club are expected to go back in for the “brilliant” Brazilian winger, as reported by the Spanish newspaper Sport.

According to the outlet, the 25-year-old is only eyeing a move back to Real Betis, despite previous reports that he’d agreed a move to Al-Nassr.

They report that Real Betis are planning to resume negotiations with Manchester United, as talks for a permanent move for Antony continue.

It has been recently reported that United want as much as £50 million for the player to avoid his transfer from being recorded as a loss on their financial books.

United will need to lower their asking price

After being left out of the pre-season squad on their tour across the USA, Amorim clearly sees no future for Antony at Old Trafford, even as potential backup at right wing-back to compete with Amad.

With United reportedly setting Antony’s price tag at £50 million, a fee that large is beyond many sides’ means this summer, including Real Betis, and it’s thought that as the window goes on, that asking price will get lower and lower.

The Spanish side are determined to bring him back, but will take their time to get the best deal. They will be happy to hear that Antony will only make a move if it’s to the Seville-based club.

Despite the financial difficulties of the deal, they plan to convince United to accept a deal that would see them take a percentage of the player’s rights for £17.5 million.

It is essentially a waiting game to see which club gets desperate first, as Manchester United look determined to sell outright, while Real Betis hope United get desperate late in the window and accept a deal.
