Manchester United ‘to make an offer within weeks’ for £53m wonderkid centre-back, he’d fit Rúben Amorim’s system

Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign yet another youngster, with Rúben Amorim eager for a Brazilian centre-back to join the Reds.

According to the Spanish publication AS, Manchester United are said to be making an ‘offer within weeks’ for 17-year-old Brazilian youngster Luis Eduardo, with reports stating the club has been in talks with a defender with a rather substantial release clause.

It’s been reported that Eduardo has caught the eyes of the staff at Old Trafford after his standout performance at the U17 World Cup – the same competition that saw the birth of those such as Jadon Sancho to the world stage.

Despite Brazil placing fourth in the tournament after losing to Portugal in the semi-finals on penalties, Eduardo’s performance still caught the attention of several top European clubs.

AS further states that scouts are impressed by the defender’s speed, which has put clubs, including United, on high alert to sign the captain, with AS reporting that Eduardo can reach speeds of 38km/h whilst playing for Gremio U20’s.

Is United’s squad becoming younger?

During the summer transfer window, Eduardo extended his contract with Gremio until 2028, with a hefty release clause of £53 million, raising questions about whether United will be willing to meet this sum.

However, with the player being one who possesses such fantastic speed and ability to read the game, he coudl be an ideal wide centre-back within Rúben Amorim’s back three.

Under the Portuguese head coach, United have been focusing on signing young players, reflecting the days of the legendary Class of ’92, with the aim of nurturing young stars into future United greats.

This has been reflected in recent signings, with the likes of Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon all aiming to strengthen their future squads.

Amorim’s stance on the younger generation

Amorim has recently been praised for his faith in younger players, with 15-year-old JJ Gabriel having been invited to train with the first team after his impressive performance against Liverpool over the weekend.

Gabriel managed to get a hat-trick against United’s rivals in a spectacular 7-0 victory for the Red’s Under-18s. Gabriel impressed the coaching staff with his smooth footwork and excellent finishing, earning him a place in first-team training and sparking speculation over when his senior debut will come.

This would then put Gabriel as United’s youngest ever Premier League player, overtaking Angel Gomes, who made his debut at 16 and potentially even breaking the Premier League record, with Ethan Nwaneri currently taking that spot.

The strength in the youth set-up is looking incredibly promising, putting fans in hopes of seeing the club revert to their victorious ways.
