Manchester United ‘to break £89m transfer record’ to give Rúben Amorim exactly what he wants

Manchester United could be set to break their £89 million transfer record soon, with the club set to give Rúben Amorim exactly what he wants.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United prioritised strengthening what was a struggling forward line, as well as improving their depth between the sticks.

Through the additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens and others, the Red Devils have looked far stronger in the Premier League, proven by their 2-1 win at the weekend against the high-flying Crystal Palace.

Ruben Amorim’s side are up to seventh in the table following their win at Selhurst Park, and will next face West Ham United at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Despite clear improvements from last season, United will still look to further bolster their squad over the next couple of transfer windows, and are being linked with a host of midfielders.

United targeting record-breaking transfer

One of the midfielders the Reds are being linked with is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who has emerged as one of the league’s top talents.

United were pursuing Brighton’s Carlos Baleba over the latter stages of the summer window, although due to the lucrative fee being demanded, a deal never came to fruition.

As reported by Manchester World, Anderson, Baleba, and Adam Wharton are all among United’s top midfield targets. However, a deal for any of the three is likely to cost in the region of £100 million.

Amorim’s side are also keen on cheaper options such as Joao Gomes and Angelo Stiller, although, if they are to move for an ‘elite option’, it will likely take a club record fee, exceeding Paul Pogba’s £89 million fee from 2016.

United’s midfielder necessity

It is important for United that they make the right decision when bringing in a new midfielder, as it is undoubtedly the department of their squad that raises the most concerns.

The Reds only have four senior midfielders at their disposal, although their are question marks surrounding the future of all of them for several different reasons.

Casemiro could leave in the summer when his contract expires, whilst strong transfer interest surrounds Bruno Fernandes. As for Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, both have struggled to work their way into Amorim’s plans.

Although Baleba is currently enduring a more turbulent season than last, both Anderson and Wharton have consistently impressed the masses and could make great additions to the United midfield.
