Manchester United will reportedly be offered the chance to sign a £25 million striker that Rúben Amorim was keen on in January as part of a cut-price transfer.
Manchester United are prioritising attacking reinforcements this summer after a frustrating 2024/25 season that ended with a 15th-place Premier League finish, largely due to a lack of goals.
Bruno Fernandes was the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals, followed by Alejandro Garnacho and Amad on 11 each, and Rasmus Højlund with 10. No other player reached double figures in all competitions.
The club have already agreed to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and there is growing belief at Old Trafford that a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo will soon be completed.
Even so, United are still in the market for a central striker, with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres high on their list. He has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for the club — 66 of them coming in just 68 games under Rúben Amorim.
United to be offered Vlahovic in cut-price deal
According to a fresh report from GiveMeSport, another option United have this summer is Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is set to leave the Turin club in the coming months.
Amorim has been touted as a head coach who was “seriously interested” in signing him earlier this year, with reports suggesting that the Portuguese boss made a play for him in January.
The new GiveMeSport report reveals that Vlahovic views United as an ideal destination for him, with the player eager to try his luck in the Premier League after scoring 15 goals and providing five assists for Juventus during the 2024/25 season.
The Serbian international is seeking a contract of around £200,000 a week, which would put him in the same bracket as Cunha and potentially Mbeumo, with his representatives due to offer the player to United this summer.
Previous reports have claimed that the 25-year-old striker will be available on the market for around £25 million this summer, three seasons after Juventus signed him for £66.6 million, including add-ons.
Gyökeres’ agent holds meeting with Arsenal
This comes amid a blow for United in their pursuit of Gyökeres. According to CNN Portugal, Premier League rivals Arsenal held a meeting with the Swede’s agents on Wednesday.
Arsenal are well documented to have an interest in the Sporting star striker, and the player’s exit is more clear than ever following an explosive statement from the Portuguese club’s director showed that relations between the two parties were at an all-time low.
Although the North London side are thought to be in advanced talks with RB Leipzig regarding the potential signing of Benjamin Šeško this summer, Gyökeres remains an option for them should the other move not materialise.
While United could be a better overall destination for Gyökeres after he became such a potent striker under Amorim, Arsenal are competing in the Champions League next season, which will hold a significant say in Gyökeres’ eventual destination.
