Manchester United to ‘accelerate plans’ for Antoine Semenyo amid “major” Ruben Amorim concern

Manchester United look set to ‘accelerate plans’ for Antoine Semenyo’s signature amid Ruben Amorim’s “major concern”.

Manchester United have endured a very mixed start to their Premier League campaign, and despite many great results, currently sit ninth in the table.

The Reds were eager to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to 10-man Everton last week, and so they did, as they picked up an impressive away victory over Crystal Palace.

After going 1-0 down in the first half, United picked up early in the second half as Joshua Zirkzee struck the side level. Just shy of 10 minutes later, Mason Mount notched the go-ahead goal to secure a 2-1 victory.

Ruben Amorim’s side are the final fixture of game-week 14 as they host West Ham United tonight, with a win taking the Reds up to fifth.

United chase Semenyo

Despite improving their attack drastically over the summer transfer window, Amorim’s side may not be done there, as they are rumoured to be interested in Antoine Semenyo.

The Ghanaian, who has a £65million release clause, has been talismanic for AFC Bournemouth throughout 2025 and has found himself on the radar of many elite English sides.

As reported by Football Insider, United are ‘accelerating their transfer plans’ as a result of Amorim’s concerns about losing the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo to the Africa Cup of Nations.

As stated by former United scout Mick Brown, “Losing players to AFCON is a major concern for Amorim. Both Mbeumo and Amad are going, and [Noussair] Mazraoui behind them, so it’s the entire right-hand side going away for at least a month.”

Semenyo to plug AFCON hole

Brown, who was a scout for the Red Devils for over a decade, then added, “It could have a real big impact on their season if they’re not prepared, and the manager feels the squad is light in those areas, so something will have to be done.

“Semenyo is the one they’ve been looking at, because Ghana didn’t qualify for AFCON. It looks like he will be available in January because of that release clause in his contract, that’s why there are a few clubs having a look at him.

“If the opportunity comes up when the window opens, it would make a lot of sense because he would also be able to plug that hole left by Mbeumo.”

To ensure that Amorim’s side aren’t left light at the top end of the pitch when AFCON comes around, recruiting a new forward could be vital, and pursuing yet another proven, quality top-flight attacker may be the best option.
