Manchester United face up against Lyon in Edinburgh on Wednesday afternoon for their second pre-season friendly of the summer.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to assess the young players across his squad in a game that will not involve any returning international players, who all first reappeared at Carrington on Saturday.

Former Red Jonny Evans is on the plane after signing a short-term deal for the club. He has been training with the squad following the conclusion of his contract at Leicester City and will be available for games against Lyon and Wrexham.

Players like Joe Hugill and Noam Emeran, who both scored against Leeds, will have further opportunities to prove their worth. Matej Kovar is expected to start after Tom Heaton was left out of the 24-man squad.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot remain out of contention after returning to training on the weekend.

Two United men in particular have been ruled out through injury however, with Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bemnett missing the game. Their injuries also mean they will unfortunately miss the tour of the US.

Bennett, who played 45 minutes at centre-back last Wednesday, will be disappointed with this setback. He was excellent against Leeds and would’ve been looking to continue impressing.

Anthony Martial remains out of the squad as he continues his preparation on the training ground following an injury late last season.

Meanwhile, there is also a returning Red in the squad as Donny van de Beek is set to make his first appearance since falling to injury back in January.

He has now fully recovered from his knee problem and could get some valuable minutes against the French team.

Omari Forson has also made the squad and will hope to make an impact. He is a dangerous attacking talent.

Following the final whistle in Scotland, Ten Hag’s squad will fly across to the US to begin their four-game tour of the country.
