Manchester United target now has ‘heart set’ on La Liga move despite saying ‘yes’ to Ruben Amorim

One Manchester United target now reportedly has his ‘heart set’ on a move to La Liga despite reportedly saying ‘yes’ to an Old Trafford move.

Manchester United are aiming to strengthen multiple areas of Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer following a disappointing campaign last season.

Their primary focus has been on reinforcing the attack, with Matheus Cunha already secured and Bryan Mbeumo identified as another key target.

Once the forward line is addressed, attention is expected to shift to the midfield, while several reports also suggest that a new goalkeeper could be brought in.

André Onana, who arrived in 2023, has struggled to win over the fanbase due to a series of high-profile mistakes made during the last two seasons.

United target has heart set on La Liga move

Emi Martínez is one player who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with reports claiming that he had said ‘yes’ to an Old Trafford transfer.

But despite those rumours heating up earlier this month, it is starting to seem unlikely that the Reds sign a new no.1 goalkeeper this summer.

Onana has not attracted a lot of interest so far and AS Monaco, the only club to enquire about his situation so far, and put off by his wage demands and the chances of them making a move are slim.

Following on from this, it has been revealed by Football Insider that Martínez now has his ‘heart set’ on a move to Atletico Madrid.

The La Liga club’s long-term ‘keeper Jan Oblak is reportedly open to leave this summer and that would open up space for the Villa shot-stopper to come in.

Martínez not the right signing for United

In an ideal world, United would be getting a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer although there are doubts over Martínez anyway.

As shown by his rash tackle on Rasmus Hojlund in the final game of the season against United – which earned him a red card as Villa went onto lose 2-0 – Martínez is not perfect.

He would be demanding a large salary and United would have also had to pay between £30-40 million for him. It would have been a risk even though the Villa star is rated so highly.

It is starting to feel more likely that United sign a replacement no.2 while Altay Bayındır departs, and then that player might be able to properly challenge Onana between the sticks.
