Manchester United target makes official move, scouts have identified four alternatives for Ruben Amorim
Manchester United are interested in signing a forward player this month alongside a wingback for Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Ruben Amorim has had a difficult start to life as Manchester United manager, with results being mixed since he took over in November.
The most overwhelming takeaway since the Portuguese boss came in and introduced his new system is that new signings are needed.
United do not have any players who excel at wingback barring Amad, who is considered to be better further forward. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui do not suit the demands of the position.
That has led to signing a wingback being a priority for the club this month and they are attempting to get a deal over the line for 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu.
The Reds also need extra fire-power up front, with goalscoring being a problem and likely exits for Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Antony.
Kolo Muani joins Juventus after United interest
It was revealed earlier this month that United were eyeing a deal for Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
The French striker was previously one of the club’s top striker targets before they signed Rasmus Højlund in the summer of 2023.
Despite their interest in the 26-year-old, United did not act on it and decided against making a bid for the player.
It has now been confirmed that Kolo Muani has moved to Italian club Juventus on loan until the end of the season.
United scouts watching four alternatives options for Amorim
United remain in the hunt for an attacking signing, especially if Garnacho ends up departing for Chelsea or Napoli.
Recent reports have claimed that there is a four-man shortlist for Amorim, with club scouts having watched several forward players closely.
Those players are said to be Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Ipswich striker Liam Delap and Jonathan David of Lille.
It is clear that there are two types of profile the club are looking at. Cunha and Mbeumo can both play as strikers but would suit the inside forward roles in Amorim’s system more.
Meanwhile, Delap and David would both be out-and-out strikers for the team if they were to be signed, which would likely lead to Joshua Zirkzee permanently being moved to the deeper position.

None of those players would come cheap in January, with them all playing crucial roles for their current teams. But if the Reds were to receive £60 million for Garnacho, they may be able to convince one of these clubs into a move.
