Manchester United have suffered a significant transfer blow in their pursuit of Senne Lammens, with one of Europe’s giant clubs surpassing the bid of the Red Devils.
Manchester United’s summer transfer plans so far have entirely focused on resolving their attacking conundrum, which has seen three new forwards walk through the door.
Ruben Amorim’s side struggled for goals last campaign, with only 44 in their Premier League campaign, although the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško should hopefully render this an issue of the past.
Now that United are able to focus their attention elsewhere, the Reds have started their pursuit of a new shot-stopper to compete for a starting position.
Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens appears to be the number one of choice for United, although they have now suffered a huge transfer blow, with one club surpassing their bid for the Belgian.
Galatasaray submit final Lammens offer
Antwerp’s 23-year-old shot-stopper has been highly sought after by many European clubs this summer, and now, with only a week left in the transfer window, both Galatasaray and United have reportedly submitted their bids.
Unfortunately for the Reds, a new post by Turkish sports journalist Yağiz Sabuncuoğlu has stated that Galatasaray’s bid has ‘surpassed the bids’ of both United and their rivals, Manchester City.
The post reads, “An authorised representative of Galatasaray travelled to Belgium, sat down with Antwerp, and submitted a final offer for Senne Lammens. This latest offer surpassed the bids from Manchester United and Manchester City.”
If true, this will come as a huge blow to Amorim’s side, who are seemingly in need of a new goalkeeper, with neither Altay Bayındır nor Andre Onana convincing in their efforts so far.
United’s goalkeeping dilemma continues
With only a week left in the transfer window, it could be a very likely possibility that the Reds end the window without a new shot-stopper, which could spell trouble.
Onana, who was signed for around £47 million in 2023, was originally brought in to be the United number one, but due to a plethora of costly errors, his spot has since been in doubt.
So far in the new league campaign, Bayindir has started both matches, but he has been called into question regarding his ability to deal with crosses, after looking shaky from corners in both games.
Hopefully for Amorim’s side, they can acquire their top goalkeeping target despite the bid from Galatasaray. It will be interesting to see how this saga develops.
