Manchester United striker target ‘caught in two minds’ over transfer as Ruben Amorim enters six-day deadline

One of Manchester United’s striker targets is reportedly unsure on his next move as Ruben Amorim looks to improve his side ahead of the new season.

Manchester United are set to revamp their attacking lineup this summer after a dismal 2024/25 campaign, which saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and struggle to find the back of the net.

Bruno Fernandes led the team in scoring with 19 goals, followed by Alejandro Garnacho and Amad with 11 each. Rasmus Højlund contributed 10, but no other player hit double digits across all competitions.

The club has already completed a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha and is advancing talks to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Brentford are reportedly open to a base fee of £55 million, with negotiations ongoing over potential add-ons. The Cameroon forward is expected to undergo a medical later this week.

United are also actively searching for a new central striker. Although Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres was initially a primary target, the Swedish striker now appears to favour a move to Arsenal. As a result, United have shifted their focus to alternative options.

One of the strikers who has been regularly linked with United in recent months in Fiorentina forward Moise Kean, who has a £42 million release clause.

Despite his previous difficulties at Everton, Kean has appeared to turn a corner in his career and just scored 24 goals in all competitions for the Italian outfit last term.

It has been reported this week that United have shown the most interest for the 25-year-old this summer and that they are leading the race.

Now, while Corriere Fiorentino state that United are still in the mix, it was added that Galatasaray and Napoli are both in the running for Kean’s signing as well.

The Turkish club habe made contact with Kean’s representatives, and the player is said to be caught in two minds about what to do this summer.

Kean six-day deadline explained

There is not too much time for United to complete a deal for Kean due to a strange detail in his release clause.

It has been explained that Kean’s release clause is only active until 15 July, leaving Amorim and the United chiefs with just six days to make a move.

With zero player sales so far, United would need major developments in deals for someone like Jadon Sancho or Alejandro Garnacho to accelerate in the coming days.

That feels unlikely and United might not be able to commit money towards a deal for Kean before that deadline next week.
