Manchester United are ‘still deciding’ on Harry Maguire’s future, as they look at bringing in a new defensive signing to join their ranks.
Manchester United are still weighing up their options regarding the future of experienced centre-back Harry Maguire, with his departure being a possibility.
Maguire has appeared in eight Premier League matches for the Reds this season, although he has only started four of these, and has achieved a full 90 minutes once.
Ruben Amorim has started both of Luke Shaw and Matthijs De Ligt at the core of his defence for every league fixture, whilst Leny Yoro and Maguire have had to share minutes.
Given the likely possibility that the 32-year-old central defender leaves the club this summer, United may opt to reinvest in their backline. Their possible options for doing so have been revealed.
United’s Maguire ultimatum
As reported by transfer expert Ben Jacobs, via The United Stand on X, United will opt for a younger signing if they are to keep their experienced Englishman.
If they are to part ways with Maguire, on the other hand, then they will pursue a more experienced signing to fill the void that the defender will leave.
With all of this being said, it is worth noting that the Reds are ‘still deciding’ on Maguire’s situation. Their verdict will likely depend on how much Maguire contributes to the side for the remainder of the season.
Although Maguire has improved over the past couple of campaigns for United, he is only getting older, and the Reds may benefit from parting ways with him if they can find a suitable replacement.
United’s defensive future
The Reds are reportedly ‘keen’ on signing Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes as a potential heir to Maguire at Old Trafford, as stated by Stretty News, which would help them in developing their array of defensive prospects.
United already have both Yoro and Ayden Heaven in their ranks, so adding Jacquet would further improve the talent pool at the core of their defence.
Even if the Reds were to sell Maguire, they would likely bring in a more experienced player as a replacement. Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace could be a viable option.
Maguire has shown his importance to the Red Devils over the last few seasons, and United would need to be careful in replacing him if he is to depart.
