Manchester United have reportedly stepped up talks for one of the best young strikers in Europe, who Rúben Amorim’s club are hoping to sign for free this summer.
Manchester United’s inability to field a consistent goal threat has been a recurring problem in recent seasons — and it’s a concern that still hasn’t been addressed.
Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have shouldered most of the responsibility in attack, with Rashford scoring 30 goals in the 2022/23 campaign.
But with Rashford expected to leave following his loan at Aston Villa, and Fernandes now occupying a deeper role under Rúben Amorim, questions continue to mount over United’s firepower up front.
Rasmus Højlund has shown flashes of promise but lacks the experience to be relied upon as the club’s main striker. Joshua Zirkzee, on the other hand, appears better suited to playing off a traditional centre-forward than leading the line himself.
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, United are actively searching for attacking reinforcements — and reports suggest Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap sit high on their shortlist.
United step up talks for David
While United are searching for a new striker this summer, they are shopping for options who they feel represent good value for money amid their disconcerting financial situation.
While it’s expected that they may head for targets like Osimhen or Benjamin Šeško should they qualify for the Champions League, there have been many reports linking United to Lille’s Jonathan David this summer.
David will be a free agent once the transfer window opens as his contract with the Ligue 1 club expires this summer, and according to TBR Football, United have now stepped up their talks with his agent.
Although an offer has yet to be made, United have reportedly held talks with his agent ahead of a possible move this summer. West Ham are currently the only side to have tabled a proposal to the Canadian international, although the 25-year-old’s camp do not regard them as frontrunners.
Who else is interested in David?
While United are no doubt interested in him, they are not the only side from the Premier League keeping tabs on his situation, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea also vying for his signature.

As for those outside of England, discussions are also claimed to have commenced with Inter Milan and Juventus, while the player views Barcelona as his ideal destination and remains the most likely landing spot, having held talks with his agent, too.
David has been touted as one of the best young strikers in Europe, hence the high demand for his services.
He has 23 goals and 10 assists in 44 appearances this season and 107 in 227 game for Lille overall, amassing 144 goals in 310 senior appearances to date.
