One of Manchester United’s most talented Academy starlets suffered an injury setback earlier this week which ruled him out of the Leeds clash.
Manchester United kicked off their pre-season with a 0-0 draw against Leeds United in Stockholm over the weekend.
Ruben Amorim’s side weathered early pressure before settling into the game. Chido Obi had a couple of half-chances, while new signings Matheus Cunha and 18-year-old Diego Leon impressed with their energy and attacking intent—Leon particularly catching the eye at left wing-back.
Despite promising moments, the first half ended goalless. Amorim made 11 changes at the break, introducing the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, who delivered a confident display on the left.
United looked more composed after the restart and pushed for a winner late on, but neither side could find the breakthrough.
Lacey suffered injury setback before Leeds
It was somewhat surprising that Shea Lacey was not involved in United’s 29-man squad to play in Sweden, especially after his impressive performances during the post-season tour.
However, UtdFrenzy has reported on X that Lacey picked up a knock in training at Carrington and that was the reason for his absence against Leeds.
It was added that Lacey has impressed in pre-season training but it is currently unclear whether he will be fit in time for the tour of the United States.
For the 18-year-old, it would be a huge shame if he was to miss out, especially since his development in the last year has been majorly interrupted by injuries.
Lacey is said to be of the belief that he can push for first-team football next term but he will need to show consistency before that comes.
Zirkzee and Onana also missed Leeds clash
The teenager was not the only player to be left at Carrington for the Leeds clash, with André Onana and Joshua Zirkzee also missing out with injury.
Onana suffered a hamstring issue which is said to have ruled him out for the entire pre-season tour, while Zirkzee’s injury is said to only be a small problem.
They will both be expecting to still head out on tour with the squad but, as mentioned previously, Lacey’s involvement on the tour is still in the air.
Fans will be hoping to see the young attacker feature Stateside due to his exciting ability with the ball at his feet, and the fact that he seems to suit Amorim’s system very well.
