Manchester United star shows worrying sign on international duty, Rúben Amorim won’t be happy

Rúben Amorim has been forced into a big decision for the Liverpool game after a Manchester United star showed a worrying sign on international duty.

Manchester United are preparing for Liverpool after the international break, with Rúben Amorim needing a decent performance to stay clear of sack calls.

While Sir Jim Ratcliffe has shown his support for Amorim in recent weeks, an embarrassing result at Anfield could cause the partial owner to reconsider his decision, especially with rumours that United could be sold to a new group. Ratcliffe will want to have a positive impact on the club before being forced out.

Amorim will be keen to show the United board that he is the man to take the club forward, and a positive showing against Liverpool could be just the evidence he needs. However, he could be without a star for the short trip to Anfield.

The United boss must also consider the performances of those who went on international duty when deciding his squad for Sunday afternoon.

Dalot puts in poor performance against Ireland

Diogo Dalot has been key since Amorim joined United in November 2024, but his performances this season simply haven’t been good enough. Red Devils fans have called for him to be dropped in recent weeks.

Despite his poor form, Dalot started for Portugal against Ireland in a World Cup qualifier. PortuGOAL awarded the United right-back a 6/10, but noted one part of his game that will leave Amorim seriously concerned.

“Dalot did well to complement him and shore up the right side of the defence,” said the report. “The Manchester United full-back managed a few crosses into the box, but never really threatened going forward.”

The Portugal international played as a right-back in a back four for his country, but needed to show his capabilities going forward to impress Amorim, as he plays as the right-wing-back for United.

However, his poor showing going forward could see Dalot return to the bench with Amad starting on the right side and Patrick Dorgu on the left.

Dalot could be set for a difficult season

Dalot is one of Amorim’s favourites at United, but he should be set for a spell on the bench with his performances this campaign. Amad, Dorgu, and Noussair Mazraoui have all outperformed the Portugal international this season.

United’s No.2 doesn’t deserve a spot in the team, but he also faces another issue at Old Trafford if Amorim leaves the club.

With Amorim’s future in doubt, Dalot will be concerned as he could be pushed out of the club. Mazraoui will be picked ahead of him if a new manager switches to a back four, and Amad will keep his place at wing-back if Glasner is appointed.

Young prospects like Jayden Kamason and Bendito Mantato will be after Dalot’s place in the side, and his current performances could see him drop out for a young player. He must improve and fast.
