Manchester United star set for major milestone vs Brentford after winning national award, it’s fully deserved

One Manchester United star is set for a major milestone in the upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford this weekend.

Manchester United secured a 3-0 lead heading into the second-leg of their Europa League semi-final with Athletic Club after a dominant performance in Bilbao on Thursday night.

The Reds are one step away from the final of the competition and it is their main priority heading into the final weeks of the season.

Returning to Premier League action against Brentford this weekend, Ruben Amorim has already explained that he does not want to take any risks ahead of the second-leg against Athletic Club.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the victory, the United boss said: “We need to be really careful with our players against Brentford…”

This hints that many changes will be made to the team in order to keep important players fresh, and one star could be set for a major milestone in his United career.

Obi set for major United milestone vs Brentford

Chido Obi travelled with the United squad to Bilbao despite the fact that he is not registered to play in European competition this season.

That is because Amorim and his side planned to stay in Spain overnight and train on Friday morning before returning to Manchester, and he wanted extra players involved.

Rasmus Hojlund has played 90 minutes in his last two games, and that could suggest that Obi is finally set to start his first game for the club.

The 17-year-old has made six appearances for the first-team since getting his professional debut against Tottenham Hotspur in February but all of those have come from the bench.

He has impressed in several of those cameos and came close to scoring on several occasions, but he looks set to play from the start against Brentford and will be eyeing the chance of becoming United’s youngest ever goalscorer in Premier League history.

Obi wins Danish award as best newcomer

It would be a huge moment for Obi to start for United this early in his career. He joined the club from Arsenal in the summer, partly because of the pathway to consistent first-team football.

His progression so far – becoming a regular on the bench and in first-team training – has also seen him rewarded within Denmark.

Danish media outlet Bold have named Obi as their ‘Newcomer of the Year’ for 2025 after he also made his debut for national team’s Under-21s side earlier this year.

Obi’s representatives, Elite Project Group, were delighted with the accolade, writing: “Congratulations to our client Chido Obi for winning Bold’s Året Komet award for best newcomer!”

It is only the start of the journey for United’s young striker, who will be looking ahead for more first-team opportunities next season and beyond.
