A Manchester United star is highly unlikely to ever feature for Ruben Amorim again after making a surprise decision, and could be set to leave next summer.
Manchester United spent just over £230million in the summer transfer window and acquired four players to help both their front line and their goalkeeping department.
Ruben Amorim’s side started the window by attaining their top target, Matheus Cunha, before then purchasing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
The Reds finished off their new-look attack with Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko, before completing a deal for goalkeeper Senne Lammens on deadline day.
Due to the addition of Lammens, Andre Onana has decided to seek new pastures with a season-long loan to Trabzonspor, although, it appears that his time at United may have ran its course.
Onana’s United return ‘highly unlikely’
As has been reported by The Athletic, United’s Cameroonian shot-stopper will more than likely leave United next summer once his loan in Turkey has come to an end.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper made the shock decision to accept Trabzonspor’s proposal of a loan move, despite previously stating that he wanted to stay at United and fight for his place.
This report states that, “Although it is a straight loan, he [Onana] is effectively ending his United career with this switch. An Old Trafford return after a season of Super Lig football is highly unlikely”.
Whilst the Manchester derby is taking place on Sunday, 14 September, Onana will most likely be debuting for his new side against former Manchester City number one, Ederson, in Istanbul.
Chance for Lammens to capitalise
With less competition for United’s new Belgian shot-stopper, hopefully, a weight of pressure can be lifted off the 23-year-old’s shoulders.
Lammens joined the Reds from Royal Antwerp for a fee of £18million on deadline day, and now looks set to go head-to-head with Altay Bayindir for the starting position.
With the FA Cup being their only cup competition, Lammens now has a real opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League before United even get the chance to consider any alternatives in future windows.
Although the Manchester derby may not be the best opportunity to throw United’s new goalkeeper into the action, fans of the Red Devils will be eager to see what Lammens can produce in the coming weeks.
