One Manchester United star has reportedly ‘won over’ Ruben Amorim after initial doubts and he’s now expected to be a key part of the plans at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are looking to bounce back from a disappointing campaign and have already kicked off their pre-season preparations.
Ruben Amorim has strengthened his squad with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo, though additional reinforcements are still needed.
Beyond new signings, it’s crucial that several players who underperformed last season step up and deliver far more consistent displays.
Amorim’s squad boasts enough talent to compete at the top of the Premier League, and those players must now put the frustrations of last season behind them.
One such player determined to turn things around is Kobbie Mainoo. After a sensational debut season, his second year proved more challenging, and he’s eager to rediscover his best form.
United star “has won over” Amorim after major doubts
Due to Mainoo’s underwhelming form and uncertain position in Amorim’s system, many feared that he could be a player the club tried to sell this summer.
Even though he has not signed a new contract, Mainoo is expected to stay at Old Trafford and it has been claimed that he has ‘won over’ Amorim.
That’s according to information from Pete O’Rourke, who also explained that Chelsea showed interest in signing Mainoo earlier this summer.
“I fully expect him to stay at Man United this summer,” O’Rourke told Football Insider when speaking about Mainoo.
“I don’t think he’ll be on the move, obviously there was lots of talk about a new deal and that if a new deal couldn’t be agreed, he could move on.
“Chelsea showed a bit of interest in him as well earlier in the window. Now, he’s got his head down and he’s trying to cement himself in Ruben Amorim’s plans.
“It seems Amorim has been won over by Kobbie Mainoo because at the start he wasn’t too sure about the midfielder, but going forward he’s going to be a key part of his plans.”
Mainoo trying to match Amorim’s demands
Amorim has been using Mainoo in the deeper midfield role once again in pre-season and the 20-year-old looks ready for the challenge ahead of the new season.
His difficulties were understandable after playing so much football so early in his career and this summer of rest would have been good for him.
With a midfield signing seeming less likely, Mainoo has a great chance of proving himself to Amorim in the engine room over the next few months.
His work in possession can be extremely useful, while it seems like he’s trying to improve his ability to match Amorim’s demands off the ball too.
