One of Manchester United’s stars has reportedly been in talks with a new club for several weeks and is now seeking to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
After two seasons at Manchester United, Rasmus Højlund has struggled to set the Premier League alight, falling drastically short of living up to his £72m price tag.
The Danish striker has scored 26 goals in his 95 appearances for the Red Devils so far, with only four of these coming in his 32 league appearances this season.
United’s struggles at the top end of the pitch have been a key concern since the arrival of manager Ruben Amorim, which heavily contributed to his side finishing the 2024/25 league campaign in 15th.
With a major shake-up due over the summer transfer window for Amorim’s side, one position certain to change is the striker position, and a Højlund exit may be on the horizon.
Højlund to Inter is heating up
Time will tell what the future holds for Hojlund this summer, but a move back to Italy seems to be a likely solution for the 22-year-old, as a few clubs have been rumoured to be interested.
One of these clubs is European juggernaut Inter Milan, which has expressed a keen interest in Hojlund since their 5-0 defeat in the Champions League final.
Reports from Gazzetta Dello Sport state that “The desired striker is Højlund, it’s clear by now. Ausilio has been negotiating with him for a few weeks now. He put him in the front row after having also evaluated other options, read Jonathan David above all.
“The Danish player from Manchester United is the favourite, due to his age, salary and also experience already accumulated in our championship. Højlund has already given his approval to the negotiation.
“It’s a matter of finding the right formula for the operation: Inter wants to close on a loan with an option to buy and thinks they have a good chance of succeeding.
“The Nerazzurri have a highway ahead of them, also because Juventus, who were initially interested, then disappeared from the radar.”
A Højlund transfer is best for both parties
With a Højlund exit seemingly on the cards, United will be presented with the chance to finally acquire a top-quality number nine who can spearhead their attack.
After already signing Matheus Cunha and closing in on Bryan Mbeumo, United’s attacking options for the upcoming season already look far more promising, with a new striker potentially being the cherry on the cake.

A move back to Italy could be best for the Danish international, having already succeeded there before moving to Manchester. Similarly to the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho, it could give the forward a new lease of life.
In terms of a replacement, United have so far been linked with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, and Jean-Philippe Mateta for the striker position, but concrete advances have been reported as of yet.
Amorim will be hoping that a new striker will help his side to put their attacking woes to bed this summer finally, but who will replace their misfiring Dane?
