Following his return from his loan spell at Chelsea, Jadon Sancho has been linked to several clubs, as he looks for a permanent exit from Manchester United this summer.
Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United has fallen short of expectations, disappointing both the player and the club, and a permanent departure this summer now appears inevitable.
Hopes of a fresh start were raised when Chelsea agreed to take Sancho on loan with an obligation to buy. However, the London side ultimately chose to pay a £5 million penalty to avoid making the deal permanent.
In recent weeks, Sancho’s representatives have been actively pursuing a summer move, with Napoli emerging as one of the latest clubs to show interest in the 25-year-old winger.
Sancho was also keen on a third stint with Borussia Dortmund, but the German side has all but ruled out a return for the unsettled forward.
Fenerbahçe have recently expressed their interest in signing the want-away 25-year-old, and have seemingly emerged as favourites to secure the winger’s signature as talks have progressed.
Sancho accepts Fenerbahce’s wage offer
United are desperate to get Sancho’s wage off the books this summer, with his wages being a sticking point in any potential negotiations for a move away from Old Trafford.
According to Turkish media, however, Fenerbahçe are progressing on a deal for Sancho, with the club growing increasingly optimistic that they can secure an agreement for the attacker.
As reported by Sabah, via SportWitness, they claim that Sancho has agreed to a salary of around £8.5 million per season, a figure that is likely after tax. Turkey’s lower tax rate for footballers has allowed Fenerbahçe to lead the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.
With United so eager to get Sancho’s wages off the books, they have given the Turkish side the upper hand in negotiations, according to journalist Orazio Accomand, who claims that Fenerbahce has made an offer of around £15.5 million.
Despite Sancho having offers from Juventus and Napoli, the wages offered by the two Serie A giants are reportedly much lower than the package that Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are willing to offer.
Where did it go wrong for Sancho?
Signed for £73 million in July 2021, Sancho was destined to take the Premier League by storm after lighting up the Bundesliga at a young age, but just five years later, Sancho’s career is now at a crossroads.
Problems with timekeeping, for which Borussia Dortmund had been more forgiving, were not accepted at United, with then-manager Erik ten Hag not taking them lightly.
Sancho’s feud came to a head after he posted a now-deleted post hitting back at ten Hag after the then-manager left him out of the squad for his performances in training.
Sancho’s refusal to apologise meant that it was no surprise when he left in January 2024 on loan to return to Dortmund, where he scored three and assisted three in 21 matches, while also earning a Champions League runners-up medal.
Despite showing some form in Germany, a permanent move wasn’t financially feasible, with Sancho returning to Old Trafford. He was then sent to Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy depending on Chelsea’s league finish. There was also a £5 million opt-out clause included, which Chelsea activated.
Perhaps a move away from the Premier League spotlight could allow the 25-year-old to rediscover some form, as he will be wanting to play himself back into a spot in the England national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
