One Manchester United star has reportedly given the all-clear for his departure after a disappointing season at Old Trafford.
One of Manchester United’s biggest problems last season was the lack of consistent goal scorers, with Rasmus Højlund struggling to lead the line effectively.
The Danish striker, who arrived from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, was immediately thrown into the role of first-choice forward due to Anthony Martial’s persistent injury issues.
Despite scoring 16 goals in all competitions during that campaign, many fans expected Højlund to push on this season. Instead, his performances took a significant downturn.
His form dipped drastically at various points, particularly towards the end of the season, and his future at Old Trafford now appears uncertain with Ruben Amorim keen to sign a new centre-forward.
United star gives all clear for exit talks
There have been rumours about a potential return to Italy for Højlund, with Inter Milan being one of the clubs interested in signing him.
According to a new report from Corriere dello Sport, the Danish striker has now given the all-clear for negotiations to progress between the two clubs and is eager to join Inter.
It was further explained that the Italian club would like to get a deal done for around £33 million, which is slightly lower than United’s demands.
Even at that price, the report claims that Inter would want it to be part of an initial loan with an option or obligation to buy him next summer if certain conditions are met.
United’s preference is clear – they are not planning to accept that kind of proposal and so it is likely the negotiations between the two clubs will be centred around whether a solution can be found.
Højlund still appreciated in Italy
In an ideal world, Højlund would be able to either go on loan or sit in the background and be able to turn his career around while still at the club.
Yet, if United are able to sell him this summer, that money can immediately be reinvested into new signings and there’s not many players in the squad who can guaranteed more than £30 million in sales.
Højlund is clearly still appreciated in Italy – as he should be – and would likely turn his career back around with a move to the Serie A.

It would be nice if he is able to turn things around at Old Trafford after his difficulties, but there will be no real complaints if he is sold in the coming months.
