Manchester United star confirms he ‘could leave on loan’ despite “crazy” displays under Rúben Amorim

One of Rúben Amorim’s younger players has confirmed he could leave on loan this summer despite praise for his displays last season.

Manchester United are now focusing on the final three additions to their squad as Rúben Amorim gears up for his first full season at Old Trafford.

So far this summer, the club have brought in Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo. Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to take up key roles in a refreshed front line, while 18-year-old Leon will act as deputy to Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu at left wing-back.

In the final five weeks of the window, United hope to sign a seasoned striker, a defensive midfielder, and a goalkeeper capable of challenging André Onana.

However, they may need to offload several important players — including Alejandro Garnacho — to generate the funds needed for further signings.

Collyer confirms he could leave on loan

With United not participating in any European competition next season, there will be significantly fewer minutes available for young stars. Therefore, United are open to sanctioning a wide range of loans for stars who are unlikely to secure significant playing time.

One of these is Toby Collyer. Despite some “crazy” cameos under Amorim last season, there is a lack of opportunity for the Englishman next season, and he has admitted that although he wants to remain at United long-term, going on loan could be the way forward for him next season.

“I think first and foremost I want to be here and play as many games for Man United as possible,” Collyer said. “I’ll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what’s the best solution for that. The best way for me to develop, whether it’s stay here or go on loan.

“The end goal for me is to play as many minutes as possible here, hopefully starting every week. So yeah, I’ll sit down with them.

“Obviously, my feeling at this moment is I want to stay. I want to play as many games as possible. I’ve not really thought that far ahead to be honest. I’ll just see how the next few weeks go and then we’ll go over those conversations.

“I’ll be able to sit down with them and see what’s the best solution for that. But yeah, like you said there as well, obviously there’s not a lot of time in football. You need to get the results and get the team progressing. So that’s what we’re working towards at the minute.”

Collyer’s exit paves way for new signing

As per the Manchester Evening News, Collyer’s possible exit helps pave the way for United to bring in a new midfielder this summer.

The position remains one of the club’s three priorities in the next few weeks of the transfer window, although it has seemingly slipped behind the desire for a new striker.

Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte all played well against West Ham during a pre-season fixture on the weekend, but Amorim is still keen to secure a new dynamic and defensive midfielder.

Who the club can secure depends on exits and the generation of possible funds, although Collyer’s loan would free up space in the squad.
