Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has urged his former club to make a ‘no-brainer’ signing for Ruben Amorim this summer but it looks likely to be ignored.
Ruben Amorim has had a terrible first six months in the Premier League at Manchester United, with the Reds sitting 16th in the table.
United’s main issue this term has been goalscoring. Amorim had a machine at Sporting in Viktor Gyökeres – who has over 50 goals in the season – and now has Rasmus Hojlund.
The Danish striker has scored four goals in the league this season and a striker signing at Old Trafford is inevitable.
Various names have been linked with a move to bolster Amorim’s attack but Dwight Yorke believes that there is an obvious choice for the club to sign.
Yorke believes United must sign Osimhen
Yorke, 53, spent four years at Old Trafford and is best known for his role in the treble-winning season of 1999 and his iconic partnership up front with Andy Cole.
The ex-Trinidad and Tobago international has been speaking about Victor Osimhen, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford recently.
He believes that Osimhen would be the perfect signing for Amorim’s squad and that the decision to sign him from Napoli would be a “no-brainer”.
Yorke told Instant Casino: “Manchester United signing Victor Osimhen this summer would be better late than never. I don’t know what has stopped the club signing these big names in recent windows.
“You can see why they have signed young players for their potential like Rasmus Hojlund, but United need more than that. They have made too many mistakes and are paying for it.
“Can Osimhen handle the pressure? Well, it can’t get any worse. He’s been around for a while now, he’s a senior player and he’s scored wherever he’s been.
“The expectation of coming to Manchester United now, it’s something that will give him another challenge to achieve. I think signing Osimhen is a no brainer. I think it’s a no-brainer because United are in a hole and they need to get out of it.”
United are unlikely to sign Osimhen
Despite the plea from Yorke, the chances of United signing Osimhen in the summer window seems extremely unlikely now.
Recent reports from David Ornstein have suggested that there is very little chance of Osimhen moving to a Premier League club this summer.
Instead, it seems like a transfer to the Saudi Pro League could be on the cards for the Nigerian striker, while United will be looking elsewhere.
The priority target for those at Old Trafford seems to be 22-year-old Liam Delap, with question marks over his ability to lead the line for United.
