Manchester United appear to be facing a block in signing “Bosnia’s biggest talent” by Bundesliga giants, despite their intense interest.
Manchester United have been scouting a number of players to boost the squad depth for future seasons. A focus on promising players is key, as it allows United to save money on big deals and develop talents to understand the United way of life.
Squad depth is key to United’s future success, with injuries becoming a big problem over the last few years and AFCON approaching, taking away many important players for international duty.
Rúben Amorim made three attacking signings this summer, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško all having promising starts to their United careers.
The Austrian league has provided development to many Premier League talents, and United are eyeing another talent from the competition. Erling Haaland burst onto the scene for Salzburg in 2019 before his eventual move to Borussia Dortmund. United’s Šeško also started his career in Austria before moving to the Bundesliga.
Alajbegovic ‘intensively’ scouted by United
One of the Austrian League’s most promising forwards, Kerim Alajbegovic, has caught the attention of Manchester United scouts who are now ‘intensively’ following him, according to SportBILD.
The 18-year-old left-winger has been frequently starting for RB Salzburg, who currently sit on top of the league in Austria. He has provided four goals and an assist in eleven games so far in the league.
“Bosnia’s biggest talent” left the Bayern Leverkusen youth system in July, but the German club are already looking to block offers and re-sign him through their buy-back clause that allows Alajbegovic to return to the club for around £5 million in the 2026 summer.
Bayern Leverkusen are reportedly happy to pay the fee due to the Bosnian’s “extraordinary development”, leaving United to look elsewhere or sign him from Leverkusen in the future for a much higher fee.
United must look to homegrown stars
If United are unable to complete the signing of Alajbegovic, they can look towards the under-21 stars. This will save United money and mitigate the risks associated with a disappointing transfer.
By looking to the under-21s, United are able to develop players to fit certain tactical setups. The youth players will also be aware of the intense pressure and importance of playing for United, which can often come as a shock for players signed from abroad.

Shea Lacey and Amir Ibragimov are amongst the talented players who have been showing promise for the under-21s. Lacey will be hoping to find his way into the first team squad when Mbeumo leaves for AFCON in December.
With Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho highly likely to leave permanently in the summer, forward squad depth will be much needed for Amorim.
