Manchester United set for transfer battle with Aston Villa over Ex-Chelsea forward

Manchester United could be set to add to their attack in the January window and are now eyeing a move for a former Chelsea forward.

Manchester United are currently joint 5th in the league and only one point behind Sunderland as the Premier League gets underway once again this weekend, with United playing Everton.

Despite the success of summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Rúben Amorim will soon face a conundrum with the availability of the rest of the attack.

Both Mbeumo and Amad could be set to go to AFCON in late December, Benjamin Šeško is currently out injured for at least a month with a knee injury, and Joshua Zirkzee’s future is uncertain. Amorim would be left with only Cunha and Mason Mount as guarantees to play, assuming they do not get injured now either.

With the winter transfer window fast-approaching, it comes as no surprise that the rumour mill has begun to swirl again as the Red Devils may look to increase the depth of the attack.

United set to battle for Pulisic

Christian Pulisic has led a resurgence of late at AC Milan, after his inconsistent period of time at Chelsea. He has become a bona fide star for the Italian giant, often playing on either wing and at times down the middle for Milan.

The Rossoneri have enjoyed a fine start to the season, thanks to Pulisic, who has scored four goals and got two assists in seven games so far in Serie A.

According to Fichajes, United and Aston Villa are the two Premier League sides who are considering a move for the former Chelsea winger.

Both sides are attracted to the versatility of the forward as they want to make a push for the European spots this season. Milan are also in talks with the player to extend his contract beyond the 2027 expiration date.

United should trust the youth instead

While it is important for United to sign forwards in January, signing a player like Pulisic could block the pathway for academy stars. He would likely be on a longer-term deal, so perhaps signing a short-term loan and supplementing the youth in might be a better option.

The likes of Shea Lacey, James Scanlon, Amir Ibragimov and JJ Gabriel have been capturing the attention of not only the fans but the coaching staff too. Each of them, at points, has had stints training with the first team.

With INEOS wanting to bring back the ethos of youth, courage and success, there is no better time to start bedding in the academy players. As seen with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, if you are good enough, you are old enough.

There is no guarantee that any will be superstars, and it is a big risk, but there is no harm in giving them the platform to showcase their abilities.
