Manchester United are set to make a significant breakthrough in the deal for Rasmus Højlund as Erik ten Hag closes in on his No. 1 striker target.

Manchester United are in desperate need of a striker this summer, as a lack of goals from central areas haunted Erik ten Hag‘s first campaign as manager.

United had Marcus Rashford to thank for a significant portion of last season’s goals, with the English winner bagging 30 for the first time in his career.

In Rasmus Højlund, Ten Hag has seemingly identified the striker he thinks best fits his system after United ended their interest in Harry Kane – despite Tottenham wanting to sell the striker this summer in order to make sure they don’t lose him on a free contract next summer.

With this in mind, it has been said by Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla that Atalanta expect Manchester United to make an “official” bid for the player by Thursday – a transfer that Ten Hag needs to go through.

United submitting an official bid is certainly significant news, with the club rarely deciding to put a formal offer on the table unless they are confident that an eventual deal will be agreed.

Rasmus Højlund represents another significant moment in the revolution under Ten Hag after the club sealed the signing of André Onana from Inter Milan last week and the acquisition of Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Onana and Mount’s signatures show that Ten Hag is continuing to completely change the squad that Ralf Rangnick left him just 14 months ago, with much of the squad almost unrecognisable from the team that finished sixth in the Premier League in 2021.
