Manchester United could be set for another transfer battle with Newcastle after Bryan Mbeumo decided to snub the Geordies this summer.
After a terrible season last term, Manchester United acted quickly to secure the signing of Matheus Cunha this summer from Wolves.
They were also in a transfer battle with fellow Premier League side Newcastle for Bryan Mbeumo but it was short-lived after the player communicated his clear desire to move to Old Trafford.
United are now in negotiations with Brentford and an agreement could be reached over a fee in the coming days as the Reds prepare a second bid for the exciting forward.
After the club finish strengthening the attack, the next priority will be to sign a midfielder for Ruben Amorim’s squad and ideally someone who can partner Bruno Fernandes in the middle.
United set for another transfer battle with Newcastle
United’s interest in Ederson, described as a “crazy” athlete, is well known this summer and he fits into reports suggesting that Amorim wants an energetic midfield signing this summer.
According to a new report from Gazzetta dello Sport, the Atalanta midfielder has also been of interest at Manchester City and Newcastle in recent months, although City’s interest has probably dwindled after signing Tijjani Reijnders.
Still, it was explained that the Italian club are demanding between £33-42 million for the player but neither United or Newcastle appear to be willing to pay this amount. Although it was stated that Al-Hilal are prepared to.
However, despite being called up to Carlo Ancelotti’s first Brazil squad, Ederson does not have a space guaranteed ahead of the 2026 World Cup under the former Real Madrid boss which means he could end up deciding the snub the Saudi Pro League outfit.
It remains to be seen whether the player will try and pressure the Serie A outfit into lowering his price tag. If that happens, United and Newcastle may end up in another transfer battle.
United will move for midfielders after fixing attack
There haven’t actually been too many midfielders linked with United so far this summer, with Ederson the only real standout name.
Championship starlet Hayden Hackney is another but reports suggest that United would only go for him if they are unable to secure a favoured option like Ederson.
Some fans are wondering if any defensive midfielders will become linked as it seems like that is the profile missing in United’s squad right now.

However, in reality, we are likely to learn a lot more about United’s preferences in the engine room once Mbeumo is over the line and a striker is also signed.
It is no secret that the attack has been then priority at Old Trafford and that is understandable, but they still cannot neglect improving the midfield and hopefully some movements are made soon.
