Manchester United send scouts to watch Napoli duo, eager to sign Antonio Conte favourite
Manchester United have sent scouts to watch two Napoli stars, with the club eager to sign one of Antonio Conte’s favourites.
Manchester United have had a difficult start to the new Premier League season, with the club sitting 10th in the table as things stand.
Meanwhile, after selling Scott McTominay to Napoli in the summer, the Italian club are thriving under the leadership of Antonio Conte.
Gli Azzurri currently sit top of the Italian league table, with just one defeat in their opening eight fixtures.
According to a new report from Tutto Mercato, scouts from United were in attendance for the game between Napoli and Empoli on the weekend.
The report claimed that, during the 1-0 win for Antonio Conte’s side, United were paying close attention to Alessandro Buongiorno and particularly goalscorer Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Kvaratskhelia has been labelled as “unsellable” by Conte but his contract runs out in 2027 and the winger is demanding a large pay rise that could provide difficulties for the Italian club.
The Reds currently have both Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford occupying the Georgian’s favoured left-wing position, which makes a potential deal seem less likely unless Rashford departs in the summer.
Meanwhile, the Serie A outfit only signed their new centre-back Buongiorno in the summer for around £33 million and he has made a positive impression so far.
The aforementioned report added that the Naples side would only consider a deal in excess of £58 million for the Italian international.
Currently, United employ six first-team centre-backs. Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez are expected to be longer-term options while Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans all have uncertain futures beyond the summer.
