Manchester United have seen a 71-goal Premier League star move to one of their fiercest rivals, despite his ‘dream move’ admission regarding the Red Devils.
Since the start of the summer transfer window, Manchester United have been in pursuit of a new number nine to spearhead their attack, which proved to be a difficult task until recently.
Having acquired Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to play either side of a striker, all that was left was for Ruben Amorim’s side to find a striker to slot between the pair.
Many different targets were explored, but in the end, it was Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko who the Red Devils decided on.
This being said, one of the other options who was rumoured with a move to Manchester has now finalised a transfer to United’s rivals, despite admitting his ‘dream move’.
Calvert-Lewin to sign for Leeds
Dominic Calvert-Lewin became a free agent at the end of June after his contract with Everton expired, and has since been seeking a new club.
It has recently been reported that the former Toffees player sacked his agent after failing to secure him his ‘dream’ move to Old Trafford, and he aims to represent himself.
The 28-year-old received multiple offers, but had his sights set on United. When the Red Devils signed Sesko, a move for Calvert-Lewin became even more implausible than it already was.
To add to this, The Mirror have reported that Leeds United have now completed the acquisition of Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, where he will now undergo a medical for the newly promoted side.
Can United’s depth compete?
With a completely fresh front three ready to star for Amorim’s side, United will be hopeful that better days are ahead, especially on the goal-scoring front.
Due to all these attacking incomings, multiple of United’s attackers have been put up for sale, and it is incredibly likely that all of Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho have played their last games for the club already.
This then begs the question, are United lacking attacking depth, or will they suffice considering the fact that they haven’t got any European competitions to worry about?
As things stand, they have both Mbeumo and Amad for the right side of the attack, Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount for the left, with Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee through the middle.
On paper, this should hopefully be a more than adequate amount of attacking depth for the Reds this season, and United fans can eagerly await the professional debuts of their new forward signings.
