Manchester United are scouting a Liga Portugal star who gave Matthijs de Ligt an ‘absolute nightmare’ earlier this season.

Ruben Amorim has now led three games as Manchester United head coach and is starting to get to know the players within his squad.

The head coach is likely going to want signings next summer to fit into his new system, while January additions can also not be ruled out.

According to a recent report from MailOnline, United scouts were in attendance for FC Porto’s 2-0 win over Casa Pia on Monday evening.

It was claimed that the Reds were gathering information on Francisco Moura and Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa in the game.

Aghehowa claimed a goal and assist in the victory while Moura played the entire 90 minutes at left-back.

United fans will remember the performance of Aghehowa earlier this season against the Reds, where he scored twice in a 3-3 draw in the Europa League.

That night was arguably Matthijs de Ligt’s worst performance in a United shirt and Owen Hargreaves said that the Porto striker “caused de Ligt an absolute nightmare today” after the game.

In the Liga Portugal campaign so far, the 20-year-old has nine goals and one assist in seven starts for the second-placed team.

The aforementioned report adds that it is unlikely United are able to make a move for the young forward in the mid-season window but these are ‘crucial weeks of intel gathering’.

Amorim is keen to make sure United are ready to move for top players if opportunities present themselves in the coming months.

“We haven’t thought about that,” the head coach told the media when asked if he has made plans for the January transfer window.

“We have so many games but it is something when the window opens, we can do something. I don’t know, I have to talk with them about that, with the board.

“At this moment, the focus is to try and win some games and to put this team in a better position in all competitions. We will see what happens in January.”
