Manchester United ‘reject’ chance to sign £50m Premier League star as Liverpool follow suit

Manchester United are among the clubs that have been offered a £50 million price tag for impressive Wolves youngster, Mateus Mane.

Manchester United currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League following a dramatic 1-0 win over Everton on Monday. Michael Carrick’s Reds will face Crystal Palace on Sunday and look to solidify their Champions League spot and chase third-place Villa.

On the other side of the table, in 20th place with 10 points, is Wolves. The side already looks to be relegated to the Championship, so they are looking to make some money from their stars.

Amongst the best Wolves talent is Mateus Mane, who at just 18 has been their brightest spark this season. The attacking midfielder has two Premier League goals and an assist, an impressive stat considering Wolves have only scored 18 this season.

With the youngster gaining Premier League experience, a move to keep himself playing in England’s highest level may benefit him next season. Wolves may use the youngster to ease the financial burden of relegation.

United pass on Wolves’ £50m Mane fee

According to reports from FootballInsider, United are among the clubs to pass up on the £50 million asking price for Mane. The midfielder’s lack of full experience has made them wary of the price tag.

Wolves have no intention of letting the star leave, as he will boost their chances of promotion from the Championship, but understand that Premier League clubs could be interested and willing to pay a high fee.

United also have options in Mane’s role with Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Amad all able to fill in. Although rumours of Bruno’s departure surrounding the club every transfer window, United may be looking for a young star to take his role.

Liverpool are also said to be interested in the youngster, but similarly isn’t moving towards the £50 million asking price. With 10 games to go for Wolves, Mane can look to impress more clubs and justify his fee.

Championship experience may tempt United

Despite Wolves looking at the possibility of a move for Mane, the England U23’s star could highly benefit from a year in the Championship. The Championship would prove to be a highly competitive and physical battle for the star.

United have options in the attacking midfielder role and have many youth players out on loan in the Championship, so it is likely that if they signed Mane, he would go on loan. This would allow him to build his skills and experience.

The Championship has been proven as a great way for players to gain experience, with Amad’s successful loan to Sunderland, where he played 42 games and scored 14, winning Sunderland’s Young Player of the Year.

Harry Amass, Radek Vitek and Toby Collyer are all United youth stars who are gaining experience in the Championship. A year of experience, therefore, may tempt United to look into the signing of Mateus Mane.
