Manchester United have reportedly registered an interest in a 40-goal midfielder who has had a £25 million price tag set this summer.
Following a disappointing season, Manchester United are acting swiftly in the transfer market to reinforce the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Rúben Amorim has already secured his first signing with the arrival of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo is keen to join him, with United set to open talks with Brentford this week.
The club is also targeting a new striker, and bringing in all three players would provide a major boost to an attack that underperformed last season. However, further additions are still necessary.
One of the main areas of focus remains midfield, where United need to add both quality and depth to strengthen their core.
With Christian Eriksen departing and uncertainty over the roles of Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro in the defensive midfield position, securing a new signing in the middle of the park is a top priority.
United register interest in £25m Sara
According to a report from Fotomac, the Reds are eyeing a deal for Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara this summer, and his price tag has been set.
Sara joined Galatasaray last year for £15 million and the Turkish side are now looking for around £25 million from interested clubs to strike an agreement.
Serie A side Inter Milan are among those looking at the midfielder and United are also reportedly assessing the situation as they look to improve Amorim’s midfield.
The 26-year-old previously played for Norwich City and São Paulo. He has scored 40 goals and registered 36 assists in his career so far.
The kind of midfielder Amorim needs
It is clear that United need a new midfielder but you would hope it is a signing who can properly challenge in the first eleven.
There are several options in the engine room already at Old Trafford but the doubt is around the quality of player next to Bruno Fernandes.
Perhaps that can be someone like Sara, who is less known, but Amorim’s biggest priority in that midfield is to identify an ideal partner for the Portuguese captain.
If they are just looking for another body to fill the squad, you don’t really need to waste more than £20 million and could instead look at promoting someone from the Academy.
