Manchester United could be set to move for a new defender, and they have received ‘glowing reports’ for a ‘bargain’ Arsenal target.
Manchester United have improved this season compared to last, although, one thing that still remains is their leaky defence.
Despite the impressive performances of Matthijs De Ligt, the Reds have conceded 19 goals in their 12 Premier League fixtures, which have been cancelled out by their 19 goals.
Ruben Amorim’s backline have shipped seven goals in their last four league fixtures, even including one against a ten-man Everton side at Old Trafford on Monday.
As United look to resolve their defensive dilemma, they have recently been linked with one of Europe’s top talents, who is being targeted by many of England’s ‘big six’.
United like ‘bargain’ Jacquet
20-year-old Jeremy Jacquet has caught the attention of many English sides, and has been on the radar of Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace for a while.
As reported by Caught Offside, the Frenchman could be available for a fee in the region of £30-35million, which shouldn’t be an issue for the Red Devils.
The article states that, “United scouts have given glowing reports,” with one source saying, “They’ve noted mature performances, aerial dominance, smart positioning, and calm distribution – all the best traits of a modern CB.”
“In all honesty, that’s a bargain in this market,” another source read. “That figure won’t be a problem for United or Arsenal.”
What would Jacquet add?
At only 20 years of age, Jacquet has shown maturity beyond his years for Rennes, and if the opportunity arose for him to join Amorim’s squad, he would surely add an extra bit of quality.
Jacquet would join Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven as ready-made, young, quality talents at the core of United’s defence, if he were to join the club.

The issue for the Reds, however, is that they face stiff competition from some of the Premier League’s top sides, who, as things stand, would possibly provide a more attractive destination.
Given Jacquet’s age, a decision on the young Frenchman may rely on the future of Harry Maguire, as if he is to leave Old Trafford, the Reds may opt for a more experienced defender in his absence.
