Manchester United receive big injury boost ahead of Man City clash as “important” star’s issue is only “minor”

Manchester United have received a big injury boost ahead of the Manchester derby as one star’s injury is only considered “minor” after playing “30 minutes with an injury” against Burnley.

Manchester United have looked significantly better this season than last – despite the embarrassing loss to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup – and continued their good performances at Old Trafford against Burnley.

Matheus Cunha was at the heart of Rúben Amorim’s transfer plans this summer, and he was playing brilliantly against Scott Parker’s side until his injury in the first half. The Brazilian was withdrawn for Joshua Zirkzee with a suspected hamstring problem.

Mason Mount, who was playing on the left side of attacking midfield, was also struggling with an injury against Burnley, but continued to play until halftime when he was withdrawn for Kobbie Mainoo. Amorim described them as “really important” to the team.

United fans could be without both for the Manchester derby after the international break, meaning Bruno Fernandes could have to play in the front three once again. However, an update has finally been provided on one of the attacking midfielders.

Mount’s injury is only “minor”

After United’s 3-2 win against Burnley, Amorim confirmed that “Mason Mount played 30 minutes with an injury”, but a further update has now been provided on the former Chelsea midfielder.

According to Sully Talkz – via Centre Devils – Mount’s injury is only considered to be “minor”, a big boost for Amorim as the attacking midfielder has started all three Premier League games this season.

Mount is now looking to recover quickly as he is back in the gym doing rehabilitation work, and he was merely substituted as a “precaution”, as he has struggled with injuries since moving to Old Trafford.

Considering he isn’t yet training on grass, Mount could miss the Manchester derby next weekend as Amorim will need his players to give absolutely everything to beat Pep Guardiola’s side, and he won’t want to risk another Mount injury.

Amad or Mainoo against Manchester City?

Against Manchester City, Amorim has two options if Mount and Cunha remain unavailable: push Amad into the frontline from right-wing-back, or play Mainoo and allow Fernandes to return to his more natural position.

Both options would allow Amorim to play more defensively or offensively, but moving Amad back into the frontline forces the manager to pick an additional defender in the side.

Picking Mainoo would give United fans a boost ahead of the game, as Amorim would be showing his faith in the youngster, but choosing to leave Mainoo out of the side could put a dampener on what could be a great occasion.

Amorim has a big choice to make, but only if Mount and Cunha can’t play a part from the start.
