With Man City pushing forward in their attempt to sign Rayan Cherki, Manchester United are set to change targets to one of the league’s most promising up-and-coming wingers.
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Manchester United are actively working to secure early signings.
Matheus Cunha is reportedly close to finalising a move to Old Trafford, potentially becoming Ruben Amorim’s first addition, with further attacking reinforcements expected to follow.
After a season marked by a lack of goals, United are looking to make several additions across the front line to bolster the squad and rectify the wrongs of their disastrous Premier League season.
With United losing the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho, the side are in desperate need of reinforcing the wide positions, and have been linked with a number of names, including Lyon star Rayan Cherki.
United switching targets from Cherki
With Cunha seemingly days away from being made official, it appears that United are working quickly to sign targets in order to integrate them into Amorim’s side.
With United looking for more No.10s, Stretty News have reported that United are among several clubs that are looking at Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh amid City’s agreement on personal terms with Cherki.
While mostly being linked with Cherki and Bryan Mbeumo, United are also keeping tabs on the exciting 20-year-old Gambian who ended the Premier League campaign with six goals and four assists in 32 appearances.
United reportedly face competition from the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign the talented winger.
Would Minteh be a good fit at United?
While Amorim’s formation doesn’t deploy any traditional wingers, the left-footed winger could have a part to play as the right-sided No. 10. It’s even thought that he could play on the left, as well as one of the wingbacks.
The 20-year-old’s move to a bigger club in the Premier League seems inevitable, like many of Brighton’s stars have done in the past, such as Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.

Minteh made the move to Brighton from Newcastle for £30 million just last summer, and with the winger’s contract expiring in 2029, United would need to fork out a significant amount of money to secure the Gambian’s services.
Minteh would make sense as a signing for United, owing to his versatility both as a No. 10 and as a wingback. However, with the club’s financial situation this summer and the absence of European football, it could be tough to tempt the winger away.
