Manchester United react as PSG reveal Gianluigi Donnarumma asking price amid ‘great desire’ boost

Manchester United have reacted after PSG revealed their asking price for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who’s said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

With Manchester United’s pre-season now well underway, the Reds have won two of their four games against Premier League opposition, with two draws as well.

Despite scoring an impressive eight goals in their three Premier League Summer Series fixtures, Ruben Amorim’s side have conceded five, including two in their 2-2 draw with Everton the other night.

United’s summer activity has completely prioritised the frontline, as this was their biggest concern last season. The Reds have acquired Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, but are still searching for a new striker.

In addition to a new striker, it appears that Amorim’s side could also be in the market for a new goalkeeper, and potentially a new midfielder as well.

This being said, the club has recently reacted, as the price tag for one of their targets between the sticks has been revealed.

Donnarumma asking price revealed

According to reports from StrettyNews, United are set to launch an offer worth £26 million for Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, who only has one year left on his contract.

The Parisians have recently completed a deal to sign Lucas Chevalier, who looks set to take over from the Italian goalkeeper, leaving Donnarumma in need of a new club.

The Euro 2020 hero has just come off the back of one of, if not the best, seasons of his career with PSG, but he has since been unable to find a common ground with his club over a new contract.

This same report also states that Donnarumma has a great desire to embark on the English top-flight, which explains his decision to decline lucrative offers from Galatasaray and Al-Ittihad, who offered him a £17 million per year salary.

However, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, PSG are seeking at least £30 million for the Italian this summer, with it being claimed that he remains open to staying in Paris.

United’s goalkeeping conundrum

Despite many of Amorim’s players returning from injury ahead of pre-season, one player who went the other way is Andre Onana, who sadly suffered a hamstring injury on the second day of pre-season.

This left United to choose between Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton for their three games in the United States, but Onana hopes to be fit for the start of the new season.

Even if the Cameroonian can be fit in time for the start of the 2025/26 campaign, United could still move for a new keeper, as Onana has failed to fill his side with much confidence since his arrival in 2023.

The Red Devils have also been linked with 23-year-old Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in Belgium, but the opportunity to sign such an established shot-stopper in Donnarumma could be too good to pass up on.
