Manchester United are ‘ramping up’ in their pursuit of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana following an agreement with Chelsea for the signing of Mason Mount.

United have agreed terms with The Blues for a £55 million transfer, with an additional £5 million in add-ons, according to transfer expert David Ornstein.

The Athletic added that Mount will undergo his medical at Carrington next week after he returns from holiday.

With that deal finally out of the way, United are looking to progress in their pursuit of Onana, who would replace David de Gea as no.1 at Old Trafford.

The Inter Milan goalkeeper has previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax and the Dutchman is a big admirer of his former shot-stopper, previously describing him as “masterful”.

Latest reports from The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg state that, now United have agreed a deal for Mount, they are ramping up their pursuit of the Inter goalkeeper, who wants to move to the English club.

This comes following various English reports picking up on the information of United’s interest in the Cameroonian following Italian reports in recent days.

His price, according to various reports, is set to be around £52 million – with Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claiming that around £10-13 million of that fee could be paid in achievable add-ons.

Onana would provide United with much better stability in possession. He showed during the Champions League final that his passing ability is second-to-none when it comes to goalkeepers.

United will decide whether to make an official proposal for the goalkeeper after De Gea’s future is finalised, according to Fabrizio Romano. His contract at the club runs out on Friday.

It seems like the groundwork is being laid for the possibility of the Spaniard’s exit. United’s pre-season tour begins on July 12 and Ten Hag will surely be hoping to have both Mount and Onana in place for when the squad returns to Carrington.
