Manchester United have confirmed that Casemiro will be unavailable to face Sheffield United this weekend after picking up a ‘small issue’ on international duty with Brazil.

The Brazilian midfielder was replaced midway through the second half against Venezuela last week. He played the following game against Uruguay but the knock to his ankle means he misses out this weekend.

United have advised the 31-year-old to remain in Brazil and he will return to Carrington early next week. However, he is also unavailable for The Reds’ midweek clash against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League after his red card last time out in Europe.

Meanwhile, despite losing the experienced Brazilian, Erik ten Hag will likely have Sofyan Amrabat available after he also had an injury scare whilst on international duty with Morocco. The loanee was spotted in training ahead of the weekend fixture.

He will likely anchor the midfield on Saturday in Casemiro’s absence, a job that he impressed at last time out against Brentford after the Brazilian was replaced at half-time.

Sergio Reguilon was also pictured in training ahead of the Premier League clash, with the left-back set to return after four games out of the team due to injury.

The Spaniard started his Old Trafford career impressively on the left flank and will be aiming to recreate those performances as he returns to the side.

Ten Hag will also have the option of involving Kobbie Mainoo in the team against The Blades, after the club confirmed he was also in team training. Raphael Varane, who picked up an injury before the international break, and Jonny Evans were also involved.

Rasmus Hojlund scored for Denmark against San Marino but expressed his anger at the opposition players targeting him, displaying an image of a late challenge in his lower back.

His partner up front, Marcus Rashford, also scored for his national side as England won 3-1 against Italy. The 25-year-old has had a difficult start to the season and there are some calls for Alejandro Garnacho to replace him on the left wing against Sheffield United.
