Manchester United project ‘moving away’ from Bundesliga star, as new target picked out
Manchester United are not expected to make a move for Bayern Munich and England star Harry Kane reports Fabrizio Romano.
Kane, the second top scorer in Premier League history is known to have many admirers within United, but despite this, a move for the Englishman is considered unlikely.
Having left Tottenham in the summer of 2023, Kane was last season’s Bundesliga Golden Boot winner with 36 goals in 34 games, a feat he is set to repeat again this season.
Despite this, rumours of a return to England have persisted – rumours that have only strengthened after Romano revealed that a £54million release clause exists in Kane’s contract for the next winter window.
United looking elsewhere
With Kane just 48 goals away from becoming the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer and the Red Devils struggling to score goals, a move to United would seemingly make a lot of sense.
Despite this, Romano has confirmed that even with Sir Jim Ratcliffe personally being a big fan of Kane’s, there is ‘nothing concrete’ in the suggestion a move could be made.
United’s reluctance to move for Kane comes down to a desire within the club to reduce the salaries paid out, with United’s ongoing financial battles well publicised.
There is also a goal within Old Trafford to move “in a different direction”, with a greater focus put on signing younger players than Kane. For context. by January 2026, Kane will have turned 32.
Who else could the Red Devils look to sign?
Writing in the same column, Romano revealed that United had considered moves for Brazil stars Douglas Luiz and Matheus Cunha last December.
However, despite making calls to discuss both players, it was deemed that moving for either player would be too expensive for the winter window. As a result, no formal offer was made.
Cunha, 25, would certainly match United’s plan to target players of a younger age bracket than Kane. Though Cunha is approaching the peak years of his career, the eleven-time capped Brazil international has been in electric form of late.
Already hitting double figures for Premier League goals this season, Cunha has long since been linked with a move to United.
Though he recently signed a new contract at Wolves, it has been heavily reported that Cunha’s new deal does include a £62million release clause.
