Manchester United ‘prepared to walk away’ from Bryan Mbeumo negotiations, Rúben Amorim identifies two alternatives

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to walk away from negotiations to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer if they deem his fee too high.

Manchester United are working on signing their second signing of the summer, having already sealed a deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

The 26-year-old Brazilian forward has joined the club for a £62.5 million move after returning from international duty, signing a five-year contract with the option for a further season.

Rúben Amorim remains focused on strengthening his attack, and United are targeting Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with the player eager to make the switch to Old Trafford after scoring 20 league goals last season.

Despite rejecting a £55 million bid last week, discussions between the two clubs are ongoing. However, there are reports that Tottenham are attempting to hijack the deal after appointing former Brentford boss Thomas Frank as their new manager.

United prepared to walk away from Mbeumo negotiations

The Mbeumo negotiations have been more complex for United compared to Cunha’s, as the Cameroon international does not have a release clause. Although Brentford were open to bids of £50 million earlier this summer, their asking price has now risen to £70 million.

According to ESPN, although United want to sign Mbeumo this summer, they are prepared to walk away from the deal should the fee become one viewed as too far beyond what the club are willing to pay.

United CEO Omar Berrada has a “price point” that the club will refuse to bid higher than, although it’s not detailed what this figure is.

Although Tottenham’s appointment of Frank does boost their chances of convincing Mbeumo to stay in London, it has been widely detailed that the player is still honouring his verbal agreement with United.

Amorim has lined up two alternatives this summer

With United prepared to walk away from signing Mbeumo this summer, ESPN further details that the club have already lined up two other options that they will consider.

United have been linked with Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo for a long time, with Amorim being “very fond” of the player, and he is listed as one of the club’s current alternatives to Mbeumo.

Elsewhere, Amorim’s team are eyeing a potential move for Crystal Palace star and FA Cup hero Eberechi Eze, who has proven himself to be a formidable force at Selhurst Park for a long time.

However, United may face a similar issue should they try to sign either of Semenyo or Eze, with the former being rated at around £60 million by Bournemouth and Eze having a £68 million release clause in his contract.
