Manchester United predicted XI vs Real Betis in Europa League: Ten Hag expected to make FIVE changes from Liverpool defeat
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could make five changes to his line-up to face Real Betis in the Europa League following their embarrassing defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.
The 7-0 thrashing will have to be put swiftly behind The Reds as they prepare for the round of 16 clash against the Spanish opposition.
United have the opportunity to progress further in another competition. They have won the Carabao Cup and are into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Ten Hag is expected to make several changes to the side that lost at Anfield, but will still be looking to field a strong XI in the hopes of having a solid result going into the second leg next week.
In defence, there could be several changes after the capitulation at the weekend. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is likely to replace Diogo Dalot on the right, whilst Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw could make way for Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia.
Varane and Shaw came into the Liverpool game after passing late fitness tests and were not impressive. They could be rested ahead of the Premier League clash against Southampton on the weekend.
Meanwhile, in midfield, Ten Hag will likely keep the same three of Casemiro, Fred and Bruno Fernandes due to the lack of quality depth in the engine room at Old Trafford.
Marcel Sabitzer is one of two unavailable players and the likes of Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek have long-term injuries.
The frontline could have two changes as Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho come in for Antony and Wout Weghorst. The Dutch striker has started every game since he joined on loan in January and a rest could be vital, with Anthony Martial still out of the picture.
Marcus Rashford will continue to lead the line as the top goalscorer at the club. Despite the team’s awful performance at the weekend, he was still close to finding the net twice. His dangerous pace and directness on the break could be very useful against the La Liga side.
