Manchester United will have the chance to make it 24 games without a loss at Old Trafford when they welcome Everton in Saturday’s Premier League encounter at noon.

Monday’s 1-1 draw between the Toffees and Tottenham Hotspur kept them just above the relegation zone, but Manchester United‘s 1-0 victory against Brentford put them back into the top four of the league.

When Brentford visited Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag saw exactly the response he was hoping for as Man United promptly put the humiliation of Newcastle United behind them with a close victory over the Bees.

In goal, David De Gea is anticipated to get the start. After a lacklustre performance on the ball against Brentford, it is clear that he will be counted on to stop shots in order to stop the Toffies’ attack from scoring.

Tyrell Malacia will anticipate starting on the left as Luke Shaw will be absent due to injury. But, due to the short turnaround, Aaron Wan-Bissaka can also feel optimistic about taking Diogo Dalot’s place on the other side of the backline.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane shouldn’t withdraw either, as the pair have been arguably the best central defensive pairing for United this season.

Marcel Sabitzer and Scott McTominay will likely start again, with noticeable differences in their performances in the game against Brentford from the loss against Newcastle. However, Fred does remain in contention to make his first start after the resumption of the league post the international break.

There is no question that Bruno Fernandes starts at No. 10. Ten Hag will undoubtedly rely on him to generate significant chances and continue to serve as his de facto captain given the player’s form and the lack of depth in the team.

Antony also seems an obvious starter despite his inconsistent form. He did perform to a higher against Brentford though as he seemed more like himself and tried to take on players head-on.

Marcus Rashford has been unstoppable for United this season because of his penchant to score extremely significant goals. There is no doubt that he will start once more after his stunning half-volley that rattled the net’s roof was all that was needed to put the Red Devils ahead of Brentford in the midweek match.

Up front, Anthony Martial is expected to start after his return from injury. His linkup play alongside Marcus Rashford is vital to United’s attack. It will be interesting to see his importance as United aim to solve their goalscoring problems.

Predicted XI

De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Malacia, McTominay, Sabitzer, Fernandes, Antony, Martial, Rashford.
