Manchester United won 1-0 in an important Premier League clash against Brentford as Marcus Rashford scored the winner.

The result lifted The Reds back into the top four but Erik ten Hag will be more focused on the performance from his side – it was the best in several months.

Total control describes the game well as United took a well-deserved three points against The Bees, who have been in excellent form.

Here are the UtdDistrict player ratings from the encounter:

David de Gea – 7.5/10

Done well with the ball for most of the game but almost had a horror from a goal-kick as Toney’s block trickled wide of the post. Made up for it with an excellent one-on-one save soon afterwards.

Diogo Dalot – 7.5/10

Helped progression really well and connected well with Antony in relation to their spacing. Dealt well with most of his defensive tasks too.

Raphael Varane – 7.5/10

Not much to do from a defensive standpoint with his team in control for the most part but always sharp to ensure momentum continued. Passed well throughout.

Lisandro Martinez – 8/10

Excellent on the ball and anticipated the play well all evening. A couple of times he was beaten in the air.

Luke Shaw – 7.5/10

An impressive showing until he was forced off midway through the first half with a hamstring injury. Hopefully nothing serious.

Scott McTominay – 8/10

Much-improved performance and two crucial blocks midway through the second half. It’s clear that he’s a player better suited to a slightly more advanced role with less build-up responsibility.

Marcel Sabitzer – 8/10

An energetic performance from the Austrian and a clever headed assist for Rashford.

Antony – 7.5/10

The Brazilian played a solid game and came close to a goal with a few curled efforts.

Bruno Fernandes – 9/10

Played in a deeper role and was excellent. Involved in link-up, progression, creating and on the defensive side. One or two mistakes but was the heartbeat of United’s domination.

Jadon Sancho – 7.5/10

The winger was tidy in link-up and looked much sharper than in recent games. Good performance to build on.

Marcus Rashford – 8.5/10

Back in the middle and a solid performance. Much more involved in the play and looked dangerous with the ball at his feet Made the finish for his goal look easy.

Substitutes

Tyrell Malacia – 8/10

Came on as a first-half substitute and settled into the game very quickly. Good showing, calm in possession.

Fred – 6/10

Solid from the bench but should’ve scored from Rashford’s cutback.

Anthony Martial – 7.5/10

Silky smooth on his Old Trafford return. Helped calm United’s play down in the later stages of the game whilst also finding players in space and creating danger.

Victor Lindelof – N/A
