Manchester United are expected to make three changes to their line-up against Brentford as Erik ten Hag’s side looks to get back to winning ways.

Their disappointing loss against Newcastle on Sunday led to slipping out of the Premier League top four for the first time since before the World Cup – albeit only on goal difference.

A win against Brentford would lift The Reds back into Champions League qualification spots.

However, it will not be an easy challenge and United will be fully aware of their embarrassing defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium at the beginning of the season.

There is unlikely to be more than one change at the back for United – with Aaron Wan-Bissaka recovered from his illness. He could take Diogo Dalot’s place on the right.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphaël Varane, Luke Shaw and David de Gea are expected to keep their places.

A shift in the midfield is also anticipated after they were dominated by Newcastle’s trio on Sunday. Fred will almost certainly be reintroduced to the line-up, likely for Scott McTominay.

Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes will continue with a trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Antony in front of them. Wout Weghorst could be benched for the first time since signing for the club with Martial finally back from injury.

Ten Hag will be eager for his side to show a much-improved performance at Old Trafford, with a victory necessary in their top-four battle.

Manchester United predicted XI:

David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw; Fred, Marcel Sabitzer, Bruno Fernandes; Antony, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford
