Manchester United player ratings in 1-0 away loss against West Ham
A David De Gea mistake saw a poor Manchester United team beaten after a mediocre performance at the London Stadium against West Ham.
With Manchester United needing to win to put some distance in their pursuit of Champions League football, Erik ten Hag‘s Red Devils instead offered a poor, exhausted showing as they were deservedly beaten by West Ham United on their Sunday night away trip to London.

Here’s how UtdDistrict rated the players from Manchester United’s loss:
David De Gea – 2/10
An unforgivable mistake for West Ham’s opener. Every game David de Gea plays, he plays like an hourglass on its last grains of sand. Mistake aside, the former Spanish international made some solid enough saves, but his distribution was mixed as always – and the keeper was very fortunate to see two more West Ham goals ruled out.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10
Alongside Antony, Wan-Bissaka made up the vast majority of the positive elements from United’s first-half performance. Picked up a completely justified yellow card when he needed to in a bid to stop Michail Antonio’s breakaway counter-attack.
A nasty head injury in the second half looked certain to end his night early, but the full-back managed to see out a bit more of the game before being replaced by Diogo Dalot.
Victor Lindelof – 5.5/10
Very lucky that his seemingly clear handball wasn’t penalised at the end of the first half, the weaker of the two centre-backs on the day but far from a terrible performance. Always looked the more vulnerable of the central defenders though.
Luke Shaw – 6.5/10
Rarely put a foot wrong defensively, and despite his position was still called upon for his creative expertise from time to time.
Tyrell Malacia – 4.5/10
Not a brilliant performance from Malacia, not his worst either. A player caught in an awkward position where he is the third-choice left-back as far as ability goes with both Dalot and Shaw ahead of him.
Yet, in his first season in one of the toughest leagues in the world, Malacia has had some solid moments including on Sunday night. Will continue to improve as the system around him improves, but isn’t at the level of his defensive teammates yet.
Replaced by Fred (88th).
Casemiro – 5/10
Hasn’t managed to finish the season as strongly as he started it. Sunday’s game against West Ham marked another average performance for the Brazillian international, something that has been rather frequent since his second return from suspension.
Christian Eriksen – 5/10
Like his midfield partner Casemiro, Eriksen just didn’t have an answer for the class displayed by West Ham’s midfield. His deflected effort was United’s only shot-on-target from the first half, that’s about as far as the positives extend.
Replaced by Sabitzer (74th).
Antony – 6.5/10
The best part of Manchester United’s attack for the entirety of the first half. As United amounted eleven (yes eleven) shots on goal including Rashford and Fernandes’ needless forty-yard hit-and-hope efforts. Antony meanwhile attempted to do more when the ball fell to him, even if he was ultimately unsuccessful, being denied on one occasion by the woodwork.
Far quieter second half, replaced by Sancho in the 74th.
Bruno Fernandes – 5.5/10
Struggled in the game with a few bright sparks from time to time. Spending the majority of his time on the left side of United’s attack/midfield, ultimately this tactical decision seemed to mute a lot of Fernandes’ passing range.
Despite this, Fernandes managed to create a couple of chances and looked the most likely to create that moment of magic United needed.
Marcus Rashford – 5/10
Regularly looked exhausted, an understandable occurrence amongst a lot of United’s players. Nevertheless, Rashford offered very very little, and his final touch almost always seemed haphazard.
Found a burst of second wind as the game entered stoppage time.
Wout Weghorst – 5.5/10
Got back quickly to make an excellent tackle following a poor piece of distribution from De Gea. Created chances, and looked the best he has in a Manchester United shirt for the first twenty or so minutes. A system and personnel change saw him hooked for Martial in the 56th minute.
Substitutes:
Anthony Martial – 3.5/10
Unoteworthy, easily unnoticeable. Had almost the full second half, could have made as much impact having none of it. His one moment of link-up play with Rashford was the only highlight.
Marcel Sabitzer – 5.5/10
Came on alongside Sancho in the 74th minute, and did very little other than make up the numbers. One good pass was about the extent of his accomplishments.
Jadon Sancho – 5/10
Came on, took a few touches, and lost the ball a few times. About it.
Diogo Dalot – 5/10
Came off the bench and immediately made a mistake. Little else was offered by Dalot.
