Manchester United plans for Amad Diallo revealed as contract situation detailed
Manchester United’s plans for Amad Diallo have been revealed as the winger’s contract situation is detailed.
Amad Diallo seemed like he was going to be an unused substitute for a third straight game until Antony picked up an injury against Fenerbahce on Thursday.
Antony, who had come on for Marcus Rashford earlier, struggled to impress, while Amad looked visibly frustrated on the bench once more.
Eventually, Amad got a brief opportunity on the pitch due to Antony’s injury, quickly winning United a dangerous free-kick with some sharp footwork. However, there was too little time to make a substantial impact.
After earning the club’s Player of the Month award in August and excelling during pre-season, Amad seemed poised for more prominent involvement, yet finds himself back on the bench.
Seeing right-back Noussair Mazraoui start in his place in the Europa League would have understandably frsutarted the 22-year-old, and now fans are starting to question his long-term future under Erik ten Hag considering his contract length.
Amad’s current deal runs out at the end of the season but United do have an option to extend that for another year until June 2026.
A recent report from the Manchester Evening News explained that United are planning to offer Amad a new long-term contract in the coming months.
However, if a new agreement isn’t reached by the start of the year, the club is expected to trigger the one-year extension to prevent Amad’s representatives from negotiating a pre-contract with foreign clubs in the January transfer window.
Sky Sports have further clarified that a new contract for Amad is seen as more pressing than Kobbie Mainoo’s new deal since the midfielder still has multiple years on his current terms.
United clearly want to keep Amad at the club despite his contract reaching the final year. Ten Hag explained that his lack of recent minutes has been due to Antony’s stellar training performances.
The 22-year-old will certainly want to start playing more consistently in a United shirt, especially after showing so much promise in minimal game-time.
