Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that three key men have sustained injuries and one will most likely miss the rest of the season, including the Europa League final
Like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur have struggled massively in the Premier League and the Europa League represents the only chance of saving their season.
They defeated FK Bodø/Glimt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final 3-1 in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Spurs take their two-goal advantage away to Norway on Thursday night, after they take on West Ham United on Sunday.
United will face Postecoglou’s team if they don’t lose by more than three goals at Old Trafford against Athletic Club, after winning 3-0 against 10 men in Spain.
Several players are returning from injury for United, with both Amad and Matthijs de Ligt appearing from the bench against Athletic Club. However, this is not the case for potential final opponents Tottenham, who have suffered several setbacks in recent games.
Postecoglou confirms three key injuries at Spurs
Speaking in preparation for their game against West Ham, Ange Postecoglou has given updates on his first team squad, with one set to miss the rest of the season.
“Lucas [Bergvall] looks like the injury is significant enough to keep him out for the rest of the season, he tweaked ligaments in his ankle, so he’s out,” the Spurs boss said.
“Dom [Solanke] isn’t too bad, still a bit sore from last night [against FK Bodø/Glimt] but we don’t think it’s anything serious, obviously a doubt for the weekend, but we are hoping it will settle down pretty quickly.
“Madders [Maddison] is a bit more of a concern because it’s a knee, we’ve sent him for a scan and just waiting to hear the outcome”
Postecoglou later added that Heung Min-Son could return for the second leg against FK Bodø/Glimt, “Sonny [Son] is working hard, he’s progressing, still doing individual [training] but he’s out on the grass and feels better everyday, so we’ll see how he’s going by Thursday.”
United youngsters to play against Brentford
Ruben Amorim will be focusing almost entirely on United’s second leg against Athletic Club, and the final if the Red Devils can seal the game at Old Trafford.
With an almost meaningless game against Brentford on Sunday, key players should be rested and saved for the Europa League, with young players coming in to take their place.
Several youngsters travelled to Bilbao to train with the first team squad on Friday morning, ahead of the game against Brentford, including Sekou Kone and Chido Obi, who are unavailable in the Europa League.
Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson could return to the starting lineup after impressing against Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite a poor team performance.
