Manchester United outcast linked with ‘interesting’ reunion ahead of contract expiry

One Manchester United outcast is being linked with an ‘interesting’ reunion with his former side, ahead of his impending free agent status in the summer.

Manchester United look set for another busy transfer period this summer, as they prepare for a potential return to European football after a season out.

Michael Carrick’s side have turned their season around in 2026, with them winning six, drawing one and losing one in the 44-year-old’s first eight Premier League fixtures.

Not only will the Red Devils be expecting some incomings in the summer, but they will also part ways with a couple of stars whose contracts are set to expire.

As well as Casemiro, whose resurgence has been a revelation for Carrick’s side, Jadon Sancho is expected to leave Old Trafford once his contract runs out. The Englishman is being linked with a return to his former side.

Sancho linked with Dortmund reunion

As reported by BILD via Sport Witness, the 25-year-old is seen as ‘fundamentally interesting’ by his former side, Borussia Dortmund, who are attracted by his free-agent status.

Sancho could be brought in as a potential successor to Julian Brandt, who will be departing Niko Kovac’s side in the summer.

Dortmund want a versatile, readily available winger, which suits Sancho down to the ground. It is also hoped that he would be willing to ‘significantly reduce’ his salary to make the deal possible.

The English winger is currently at Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal, although, similarly to the Marcus Rashford deal last season, the Villains will not be signing Sancho permanently.

United seeking a replacement

With it being expected that both Rashford and Sancho’s times at Old Trafford are all but over, it is now a likelihood that the Reds will recruit in the summer for a new winger.

Although they may not receive much in transfer fees for their two want-away stars, the reduction to the United wage bill will be monumental.

As for a replacement, the Red Devils have been linked with a selection of talents, with Iliman Ndiaye and Yan Diomande being the most notable names on their radar.

On both the incoming and outgoing fronts, it is set to be an exciting summer for Carrick’s side, especially if they are to achieve their goal of bringing Champions League football back to Old Trafford.
