Manchester United ‘open to offers’ for ‘Roy Keane-esque’ star despite £500k transfer bid being rejected

Manchester United are open to offers for one of their Academy players who was once touted as a young Roy Keane-type player.

Manchester United are under pressure to generate funds this summer as they look to revamp Rúben Amorim’s current squad at Old Trafford.

A full-scale rebuild of the attack is underway, with Matheus Cunha already through the door and negotiations progressing for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

However, the signings of the two wingers have used up the club’s initial transfer budget, meaning any further reinforcements—namely a striker and a midfielder—must be financed through player departures.

United are actively trying to sell Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony, while Rasmus Højlund is also on the market if a suitable bid arrives.

United open to offers for Gore this summer

While many first-team exits are expected to occur across the next few months, there is also a distinct possibility that some Academy players could leave, too.

Last summer, United sold seven Academy graduates, with Willy Kambwala, Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, Alvaro Carreras, Hannibal Mejbri, Brandon Williams, and Omari Forson all being either sold or released from their contracts.

This summer may be similar, with a report from Manchester World explaining that United are open to bids for 20-year-old Dan Gore, who has had significant injury issues, this summer.

Gore, once described as a Roy Keane-esque midfielder, has recently returned from a six-month loan at Rotherham, although he only played three times for the League One team.

However, Manchester World further states that Rotherham are still interested in signing him permanently this summer, with Blackburn Rovers, who had a £500,000 bid for the player turned down last month, also in the mix.

Gore needs the chance to reset in England’s lower leagues

Gore is a very talented young midfielder. He was highly appreciated by Erik ten Hag and played a significant role in the club’s 2023 pre-season matches. Still, his injuries have prevented him from making any significant impact at Old Trafford.

While dropping from United’s Academy and first-team training to the Championship or League One may not be an attractive short-term option, it could be fantastic for Gore’s long-term career.

A brilliant example of a player who has benefited from a move like this is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Signing with Middlesbrough from Manchester City’s academy, Rogers established himself as a great Championship talent.

His good performances then saw Villa take a punt on the player for around £8 million, potentially rising to £16 million with add-ons, in January 2024. He has since developed into one of the league’s most threatening wingers, with a value exceeding £75 million.

Gore’s talent is undeniable, and a move to the Championship or League One may do wonders for the young star, allowing him to reset, address his injury issues, and work his way back up to the Premier League.
